BELLA BUDDHA IS THE PREMIER WELLNESS STUDIO FOR SENIORS

Although we offer classes for all ages and abilities, our specialty lies with the senior population.  Our senior classes simply modify our regular classes into variations designed to increase the fitness level of individuals 65+ in age. We understand the individual who has been active their whole life but now seeks a program that continues to challenge, yet honor the body. Many of our students are also seniors who have been sedentary and are discovering the need to exercise as they grow older and desire continued comfort and ability.

 

We have a fantastic program with classes held on a daily basis.  We're proud to offer beginner-friendly classes as well as classes that will relax and rejuvenate you.  Bella Buddha also offers strength-building  and fun movement classes.

Classes

 

Yoga & Pilates

CHAIR YOGA

This class is great for those with limited mobility, strength and/or flexibility.  Using the chair as a prop, you have the confidence of stability with no fear of falling or worrying about getting up and down from the floor.  The chair is an excellent prop to help you stretch and lengthen your body.  You will feel taller and lighter with a sense of very real peace by the end of class.  The techniques taught are great for those who work behind a desk and need a little yoga break in their day as well.

YOGA FOR STRENGTH + FLEXIBILITY

Regardless of your current strength or flexibility status, this class will help you build bone and muscular strength; will train your muscles to work more effectively thus improving posture and balance; will increase your present level of flexibility with dynamic stretching and longer-period holds; will create greater range of motion; and will deeply relax and soothe you.

EASY YOGA

Easy yoga is a beginner-friendly class and a great way to introduce mobility and gain more flexibility in your yoga practice. With the use of a variety of props, we gently move through the yoga poses. Easy yoga is great not only for those with limited flexibility, but also for seniors and those who are working at a desk all day. With the use of a chair, you will learn techniques that you can use throughout your day while at the office.

DE-STRESS WITH YOGA

Our lifestyles can be challenging for our bodies and minds whether retired or out there in the work force. We experience stress all day long, often times we don’t even notice it building up.

In this class we will utilize breath-work, meditation, and mantras to quiet the mind and gentle stretching to soothe the body.

 YOGA FOR A HEALTHY BACK

Have a healthy back, or a back with challenges? This class is for you. We will do stretches to soothe back tension, and poses that strengthen the back and core muscles, as well as the legs and arms to assist in supporting the back, neck and shoulders.

PILATES

Pilates is a system of mind-body exercises focused on balancing, strengthening, lengthening, realigning, and redefining your body. Pilates works by targeting the body’s center and creating a stable core for all types of movements. Benefits of this refreshing mind-body fitness class include improved core strength & stability, improved flexibility & balance, enhanced well-being, prevention of back pain & injury, increased body awareness, as well as decreased stress. Soothing music & air diffuser with essential oils are on during the entire class.

 

Strength

STRENGTH + STRETCH

This senior-friendly strength-training class uses stability balls, chairs, and resistance bands.

Why strength-training for seniors? Research shows that resistance training can help older people in daily activities, such as climbing stairs, getting in and out of a car, and fixing dinner. Strength-training is particularly useful for seniors because people generally lose muscle strength as they age. Resistance bands offer more variety because you can create resistance in all directions. Also, since there are different tension levels based on the color band you use, you can easily alter the difficulty level. Use a higher tension band for an easier exercise like bicep curls, or a lower tension band for more difficult exercises like overhead shoulder press. Incorporating the use of the stability ball adds yet another challenge to our core strength which is fundamental to good health and well-being.

 

Movement

NIA

Nia’s philosophy is: "Through Movement We Find Health.” Nia fitness is based on the idea that exercise should feel good inside and out.

Nia is a cardio dance group fitness class that incorporates martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. As an ongoing practice, Nia promotes mindfulness, holistic fitness and well-being.

Nia empowers people of all shapes and sizes to connect to their body, mind, emotions and spirit by paying attention to sensation.

 

The Experience

Nia is sensational! Every Nia class guides students to mindfully focus on sensation in their body while listening and dancing to music. Each class has its own kind of magic that fosters personal creativity and expression.

Nia is practiced barefoot. Through non-impact choreography and listening to the intelligence of the body’s design, Nia delivers a holistic fitness experience. Every class is tailored and adapted to individual needs and abilities. Nia teachers are trained to show students a variety of intensity levels and ways to modify movements to safely condition their bodies.
